Junior Golf Season at Lauder – 2015
The junior golfers have had a very good season at Lauder. We had weekly coaching sessions for a total of 27 juniors, ranging from the ages of 7 to 14, organised through ClubGolf Scotland. Twenty of these young ones joined the club as members, and benefited from weekly fun competitions during the holidays. There were three different age groups, and we accumulated the scores over the six weeks. The beginners group was won by Hannah Page, the junior group by Cammy Robertson and the older group by Angus Dun. Trophies for this competition were presented after our final competition day on Sunday. This was a 2-ball foursome stroke play competition when the junior members were paired up with an adult member to play for the Musselburgh Quaich. It was won by Aron Gunn and Keith Robertson on a net score of 29 over 9 holes, with Isaac Simpson and Ian Scott second on a net score of 33 and Euan Lillico and Doddie Weir third on 37. It’s a great way to end the season, as it really helps the juniors to focus on their game, and they played really well.
In addition Robbie Gunn was awarded the prize for the most improved junior of the year – a voucher for a lesson from the golf professional Douglas Stewart, who sponsors at the club.
Finally a new trophy – The What’s On Scotland Trophy, a perpetual trophy donated by Tom and Linda Hogarth of What’s On Scotland magazine – was presented by Tom to the junior champion for 2015 – Angus Dun.
Well done to all the juniors, whose enthusiasm makes it a real pleasure to be involved.
