Junior Report 8th Aug
Only 5 juniors, armed with umbrellas, braved the rain; but by the time we were ready to go the rain had stopped. We played a Tex Mex Scramble, with 2 teams of 3. The teams were Angus Dun, Nathan Simpson and Isaac Simpson in one team, and Cammy Robertson, Lewis Jeffs with Aileen Scott Aiton making up the other. Cammy and Lewis found they had drawn the short straw, when they realised Nathan’s golf was on fire, Angus was playing his usual great game and Isaac putted like a demon, whilst they had to contend with Aileen in their team! Angus, Nathan and Isaac won the first 3 holes, although just by one stroke. However when Isaac sank an amazing putt on the fourth, Cammy and Lewis realised they really were at a disadvantage! Angus then decided it was time for a bit of fun and announced that the team to lose the sixth and last hole should do a forfeit of his choosing – he clearly thought this was a safe bet, his team having won all the previous holes. However Cammy, Lewis and Aileen were spurred on by the threat of the forfeit, and managed to tie the last hole. Angus was not finished yet though – we would have a putt-off from the farthest point of the green to the flag, and whoever got nearest to the pin would make the other team do the forfeit. Angus sent his ball to within a foot of the pin, and try as we could to knock him out Lewis, Cammy and Aileen realised they were well and truly beaten when Isaac putted his ball as near to the hole as Angus’s. Yes – even Aileen had to do the press-ups (of a sort!)
The accumulative scores on the leaderboard for the holiday competitions are – Angus Dun 12 points, Nathan Simpson 8, and Cammy Robertson 7
The Musselburgh Quaich, an annual competition when the junior members each play with an adult member, has had to be postponed to a date in September, as the 22nd August is in the middle of the Championship week-end. A date will be announced shortly.
